How many times have I said that I'm the worst on this blog?
Well here is one more...
I. Am. The. Worst.
August 8th. AUGUST 8TH!!! That was the last time I posted on the blog.
I have excuses of course. But who doesn't?! No. The simple fact is that I need to be better about updating this site. If at a bare minimum for my own recollection of what on earth has happened to get our house from point A to point... whatever letter we are currently at.
SO! In honour of the fact that a new year has dawned on us, I will officially present you with my YEAR IN REVIEW! Where I award myself useless prizes because I never got any in high school (except for that time I went back to FINALLY pick up my diploma 8 years after graduating and was shocked to learn I was an honour student and did in fact get an award. It's the little things in life guys).
Most Read Post of 2018:
January 11: We're officially home-owners
This actually surprises me. I don't think this is a particularly fun post. But then again, I was the one who had to live with the leaky roof mere weeks after finally moving in. So maybe I'm just biased and don't like the reminder of just how crappy that actually was.
No leaks yet this winter, but it's still early days. And it has been a lot milder so far. Fingers crossed!
Best Buy of 2018:
I'm sorry, but I don't have a blog post to link directly to for this one. I swear I will create one, because it's honestly too good to be true. And what with the new year and everything it's probably time for some solid resolutions right?! Such as "actually fill everyone in on what the heck is going on in your house you blogging failure!"
BUT I did share this with everyone via Instagram and Facebook. So if you follow me there, you saw it.
If you don't follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook;
- first, you should!
- second, feast your eyes on this beauty...
And that is all I will say for now. I PROMISE I will actually write a post all about it and that said post will be in the near future. But for now you must content yourself with that image alone.
I know. I am cruel.
Most Improved of 2018:
Yes. The bathroom took up a lot of our time this year. However we didn't really improve anything in it in 2018. It was mostly new build kind of stuff.
The front door however is a massive improvement and makes my heart very happy.
I still get a thrill using the original hardware and have been known on occasion to giggle ridiculously when our doorbell is rung.
I am a huge believer in curb appeal and while the house is not quite up to snuff yet (in my humble opinion), refinishing the door and updating the house number on the transom is certainly a fantastic start :)
Granted, I was bad this year so I don't have a lot of posts to choose from.
I almost selected the 2018 goals post itself, but then I remembered this one. The thing I really like about it is that it was a post full of transparency. It puts into stark reality how goals are often not met. And how that is kind of okay.
People often ask me how Jake and I can manage to be okay living in a construction zone. How our sanity and marriage survives a DIY renovation that is taking as long as it is.
The answer is simple. Really simple.
We have big dreams and goals for our house and life. And we strive to make those dreams come true. However we are also big believers in being content with your lot. As in, being perfectly happy with the simple things that life offers. Getting excited about being able to save money in some way. Or thrilled at the notion that we made something from next to nothing.
Life gets in the way sometimes.
